What is the difference between standard and soft collar shirts?
A fused collar (often called a standard collar) means that there is some interfacing between the two pieces of cloth that makes up a collar. Whereas a soft shirt collar comes with no interfacing between the two pieces of cloth.
What is fusing and which should I choose?
The fusing in a collar makes it more stiff and rigid, giving a clean and professional look. If you are planning on wearing the shirt to a professional office or a formal event, then we would recommend opting for our standard fused collar. This is the classic option and the collar type we've enjoyed here at INDOCHINO for many years.
If you're looking for something a little more casual, whether for everyday wear or to a more casual office, then the soft collar could be what you're looking for. The lack of interfacing makes it much more casual and relaxed than the standard fused collar. When paired with a button-down collar and an oxford cloth you get an American classic - the oxford cloth button-down (or OCBD).
If you're going for a soft collar you should also consider adding the center box pleat and locker loop, these complete the look and give a little more room for movement.
